Pebble Beach has seven public and private 18-hole golf courses. Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay, and Spyglass Hill are owned by the Pebble Beach Company and are all public courses. Poppy Hills is also a public course.[6] Private courses located at Pebble Beach are Cypress Point Club and the private Monterey Peninsula Country Club's two courses, the Dunes Course and the Shore Course. The Pebble Beach Company also owns a nine hole par-3 course in Pebble Beach called the Peter Hay course, and Del Monte Golf Course a few miles away in Monterey, which is the oldest continuously operating course in the Western United States.
Several of these courses are widely celebrated, especially Pebble Beach Golf Links. Designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, it is the most famous course in the Western United States, and the only course which has ever beaten Pine Valley Golf Club to top spot in Golf Digest's biennial list of America's 100 greatest courses. Pebble Beach Golf Links has been the site of the US Open in 1972, 1982, 1992, 2000, and will be the location again in 2010.[7]

Pebble Beach Resorts is proud to announce Pebble Beach Golf Links, host to 10 previous USGA championships including four U.S. Opens, will once again host the U.S. Open Championship, June 14-20, 2010.

2010 U.S. OPEN FUN FACTS
• 18,000 bleacher seats will be constructed and installed
• 15,000 pounds of salad served
• 200,000 prawns, 850 pounds smoked salmon and 55,000 pounds beef will be prepared and served
• 180,000 servings of beer will be sold in the concessions
• Approximately 6 miles of fencing will be installed around the championship grounds
• 7,600 volunteers across 32 committees will donate their energies to the success of the event
• 1,500 media from 25 countries anticipated to be on site to cover the event

The lovely town of Carmel

Carmel-by-the-Sea, usually called simply Carmel, is a small town in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1916. Situated on the Monterey Peninsula, the town is known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history. In 1906, the San Francisco Call devoted a full page to the "artists, poets and writers of Carmel-by-the-Sea," and in 1910 it reported that 60 percent of Carmel's houses were built by citizens who were "devoting their lives to work connected to the aesthetic arts." Early City Councils were dominated by artists, and the town has had several mayors who were poets or actors, including Herbert Heron, founder of the Forest Theater, bohemian writer and actor Perry Newberry, and actor-director Clint Eastwood, who was mayor for one term, from 1986 to 1988.
The town is known for being "dog-friendly", with numerous hotels, restaurants and retail establishments admitting guests with dogs.
Carmel-by-the-Sea is located on the Pacific coast, about 330 miles north of Los Angeles and 120 miles south of San Francisco. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,081.

The Pebble Beach Equestrian Center hosts a number of major hunter/jumper shows each year, as well as a dressage show and numerous Stirrup Cup shows.

Concours d’Elegance

The annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance auto show has been held in Pebble Beach since 1950. The event focuses on classic cars, and each year features a particular marque as its focus.[9] In addition to the car competition, there is an auction, a classic car tour, and an automotive art exhibit.[10]

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is a 72-hole PGA TOUR golf championship dating back to the 1930’s when Bing Crosby gathered a ‘few friends’ to raise money for charity... and have a little fun.
Top TOUR professionals team with Hollywood celebrities, world renowned musicians and the captains of industry as they compete for a $6.4 million purse. Foursomes rotate to MPCC Shore Course, Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach Golf Links Thursday through Saturday. The infamous ‘cut’ is made on Saturday night and the leading 60 professionals and 25 pro-am teams play Pebble Beach on Sunday for the championship.
